I was lucky enough last night to enjoy a sumptuous seven-course meal at The Salty Monk in Sidford. Ordinarily the master of the kitchen is none other than owner and chef Andy Witheridge, who runs the 16th Century establishment with his wife Annette. However, for one night only we were invited to Dine Like Kings – where Year 11 pupils from The King’s School in Ottery St Mary gave the professionals a run for their money!
Split into two teams, the kids ran the kitchen and front of house for one night at the request of Andy and Annette, who closed especially for the occasion. The evening was entirely for the aid of two much-loved local charities – The Baton and Devon Freewheelers.
The food was fantastic and credit was paid at the end of the night to all the pupils who worked hard to prepare for the evening and also tirelessly throughout the night. But most of all, I was touched at the tribute paid to The King’s School members of staff who helped organise, prepare, cook and wash up – led by food technology teacher Deborah Capon…a night to truly be proud of for all involved!
